The Scone Shack

A hidden gem of Cape Point.

This past weekend I went to one of the best places ever!

The Scone Shack is an off-the-grid spot in Cape Point that serves wood-fired scones and homemade jams. It is open on the weekends from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm Friday to Sunday cash only. On the property are chickens, peafowl, piglets, goats, dogs, bee hives, and more.

I was feeling a bit homesick, with it being Easter weekend and away from everyone but this definitely cheered me up instantly. It made me feel like I was back home.

If you ordered the scones which I did of course… I mean I had to with a name like “The Scone Shack ''. It came with two scones served on the side with cream, butter, and plum jam made that day over the wood fire.

I wanted to see how they compared to Moms back home and let me say these held up to the standard. They literally melted in your mouth and you best believe I used all that plum jam. Nothing went to waste.

You could walk around the entire property enjoying a beautiful escape and disconnect from city life. Warning that cell reception is spotty which I loved even more as I don’t look at my phone as often anymore.

Get ready for a lot of photos of me with animals and delicious food!

A wonderful surprise was getting to see all the beehives up close.

My bee-keeping mentor, Tom, would be very proud. I got up close to get a good look at the hives seeing what the bees were up to. Especially since right now we are heading into the winter months in South Africa.

I of course had to pick up a chicken! I was so happy they had 2-month-old chicks running around. I love Barred Rocks and had to pick one up. Not to brag but it did come up to me on its own and must have read my hat.

A little boy was sitting with his family at another table and got all excited seeing me hold her. I invited him to come over and pet her.

I ended up teaching him about what kind she was and how to properly hold a chicken. He did a fantastic job and carried her over to show his family. The smile on his face was contagious and I loved seeing the pride as he set her down carefully! 4H skill on point!

Also you can stay over for R500 a night in one of these cute little Shacks.

It is something I will be trying for sure when I come back to South Africa again!

Thank you for reading! I absolutely loved getting to go to the Scone Shack and maybe I will make another visit before I leave South Africa!
